On July 20, Wilcon Builders' Depot gave a generous donation of P1M to the Philippine Red Cross (PRC), in support of the latter's "Million Volunteer Run" fundraising project. This was a follow up to Wilcon's prior donation to the PRC in December 2011 for disaster management support, also amounting to P1M.
The official turnover was conducted at the Wilcon Builders' Depot head office. The donation was given to PRC Chairman and Senator Richard Gordon and PRC's OIC-Fund Generation Department Anacletz Bandrill by Wilcon President/CEO William Belo, Wilcon EVP/COO Rosemarie Ong, and Wilcon VP-Human Resources Grace Tiong.
The Million Volunteer Run has three objectives. It aims to: heighten public awareness to reduce disaster risks and the vulnerability of communities in the interest of saving lives; build a network of at least 143 humanitarians in every baranggay, school and workplace who will respond to disasters, donate blood, and alleviate human suffering; and organize and train the Red Cross 143 volunteers.
The Red Cross is the foremost humanitarian organization in the world. It is one of the oldest and biggest organizations of its type, with nearly 100 million members, volunteers and supporters in 189 national societies worldwide. The PRC's, in turn, has over 100 chapter and sub-chapter locations throughout the country. The PRC's services and projects include: Safety Service, Red Cross Youth, Volunteer Service, Community Health and Nursing Services, and Disaster Management Services.
As a sponsor of the PRC, Wilcon serves as a catalyst for national renewal, helping prepare the country to respond better to disasters and save millions of lives. The company firmly believes in helping the Filipino people whenever and wherever it can, working in tandem with like-minded institutions such as the PRC.
